How to prepare our machines for the autumn campaign
The autumn sowing campaign has already started. Due to climate change, the extreme drought in places and the adverse weather conditions, farmers have to be extremely flexible and at the same time react quickly given the ever shorter working deadlines.
One of the most important conditions for high yields and efficiency in the field is the serviceable equipment. That is why it is recommended that the machine park be inspected and prepared for work immediately after the harvest campaign.
Mladen Stoyanov, spare parts and service manager at Titan Machinery Bulgaria gives practical advices and guidance regarding the preparation of machines for field work.
“Given the current market situation and the deepening supply crisis, it is utterly important farmers to prepare their machines as early as possible for the upcoming campaigns, to plan ahead of the seasonal services, to plan for the heavier repairs during the winter months. Only this will give them the certainty that the machine will work when it is needed”, said the expert with over 10 years of experience in the service and maintenance of agricultural machinery.
According to him, it is very important that farmers do not fail to do a complete inspection of their machines immediately after the harvest campaign. In view of the supply crisis, this will give them additional time to react if certain machinery items need to be replaced.
“We often talk with customers that the prescriptions described in the operating manuals should be followed. This is of utmost importance, as well as the selection of original spare parts and consumables. This is the only way farmers can guarantee a problem-free campaign.
On our part, we guarantee a large set of spare parts we keep in stock and, of course, the availability of the service when it is needed”, Mladen Stoyanov concluded.
The expert advises that in drought conditions the machines shall be prepared more thoroughly, and in such extreme conditions, farmers should pay attention to the tractor first. It is very important to observe the oil and filter change intervals, to pay attention to the correct regulation of tire pressure and to the machine balancing.
Regarding the equipment – it is important to work at a shallower level, since every centimetre of working depth further slows down the engine, and also removes moisture from the soil surface. Of course, the selection of working units and discs with high wear resistance is also important in order to increase the replacement interval.
